A 1-star cylinder may be considered only if you already have a compatible 2-star security handle installed, as this combination achieves the equivalent TS007 3-star security rating.
When evaluating euro cylinder options, the following factors warrant careful consideration:
- Anti-snap protection — the primary security concern for UK residential properties
- Resistance to drilling, bumping, and picking attacks
- Whether your installation requires cylinder replacement alone or handle replacement as well
- Compliance with insurance requirements and Secured by Design standards
- Long-term security value relative to initial investment
A proper 3★ cylinder like this is the simplest upgrade path. You swap only the barrel and immediately gain high resistance to snapping, drilling, bumping and picking. This is usually the best value if your existing handles are ordinary or older. 3★ cylinders are independently tested to withstand multiple forced-entry methods.
A modern 1★ cylinder is not necessarily “bad” — many newer ones still include anti-snap sections. But by itself, it does not provide the same standalone protection certification as a true 3★ cylinder.
